Busker and the Mini-Machos! Wo by Bluebottle
2009/12/02
Lisa Brawn is exhibiting two series at Bluebottle Art Gallery this December. Working with salvaged century-old rough Douglas Fir beams, she does not create prints with the wood but creates an original piece from the block itself. To find suitably rustic and rugged subjects for this wood, Lisa references popular culture personas and archetypes.

BUSKER features iconic musicians inspired by a performance in the DC metro by concert violinist Joshua Bell who played Bach on his Stradivarius for 45 minutes as over 1,000 people rushed by.

¿Quién es más macho? features touch guys from 1920's silent cowboys to current icons such as the Fonzarelli and Pacino.

Call for Submissions by lalalana
2009/11/30
Daniel Cooney has teamed up with iGavel once again to present a new round of artist auctions. For anyone interested in submitting, you can find the details below:

The new auctions include a curated selection of works of art by promising emerging talent. The auction is a showcase before an audience of collectors, dealers, museum professionals and gallery owners. To ensure equal and fair representation all works are presented with reserves set at $200.

iGavel is an international network of fine art and antiques professionals with Consignment Centers conveniently located in many major metropolitan areas. Our regional network enables consignors to minimize handling and shipping expenses while reaching an international marketplace of buyers.

Submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis. To submit you must meet the following requirements:

- Undergraduate student works will not be accepted
- All mediums are welcome besides installation works
- Artists cannot have gallery or commercial representation
- Some prior exhibition or publication experience is required

To submit, please fill out this form. Submit one image per work. Images must be at least 800 pixels on the longest side, jpeg saved for web, below 200kb in size, and SRGB color space. Each artist will be required to sign a contract with iGavel. Artists receive a 50% commission on all sold works. Shipping of accepted works to iGavel or the iGavel Associate is the responsibility of the artist, and the return shipment if not sold. After your submission is received, you will be contacted by email.

The first Emerging Artist Auction is slated to launch in early 2010.

Every collaborator who enters our orbit brings with him or her a world more strange and complex than any we could ever hope to imagine. By listening to the subtlety of theirs needs, desires or ambitions, we fold their world onto our own.
Neither party will ever be the same.

BOONIKA - DARK DAYS ARE HERE by bearhunter
2009/09/21
PLEASE FORWARD THIS MESSAGE TO YOUR FRIENDS!

For those of you who have heard about Boonika but don't know all the facts here is the fast info:

Boonika was formed in 2000 by two school friends, Marko Rukavina and Marko Prpic ZETS. From the beginning it was all about helping creatives from around the world to promote their work. First Boonika website was built in 2004. It was Boonika.com where painters, street artists, photographers, designers, video artists... were able to show their work. Free of any charge. Our slogan was 'We support art... no bullshit!'. It was one of the first websites who let artists post their stuff on it's homepage. Boonika never asked money from their members. There was no membership fee and Boonika never earned a dime from banners. Boonika stands behind all kinds of interesting projects which helped some artists to build their name. Exhibitions, contests, interviews...

Two years ago we decided to create a website which will help our members promote their work in more professional way. A place where they would have professional kickass portfolios. And we did it. Domain was Boonika.net and everything was working fine in the beginning. Like Boonika.com, Boonika.net was also free for its members. There was no profit for Boonika.net creators. No banners no anything. It was all about supporting each others. Community where freelancers and small studios would work alone or together on interesting projects. 'Nothing takes 5 minutes' was the philosophy behind Boonika.net. Our main goal was to protect interests of our members when making contacts with new clients. Lately we were about to make some major changes. We wanted to let others join us as guest editors and let them use Boonika.net homepage for writing about art and design. But then it went all wrong. Crisis came and we could not afford enough time and money to go on with Boonika.net project. Hosting company suspended our account and we no longer have access to Boonika.net web site. If we don't pay in next 10 days we will loose all of our data. And that's why you are reading this message.

HELP US
Help us get on our feet again. Help us cause we were always here to help you. We would be grateful if you could give us anything. Even $1. We need your help to stay independent. Any advice is more than welcome. Send your message to boonika.net@gmail.com and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

JOIN US
If you want to join us as one of the administrators/editors please send your CV and samples of work to boonika.net@gmail.com. Also, tell us what is your field of interest (design, photography, videos...).

Thank You,
Boonika Team
